LionsXII 2-1 Perak: Irwan Shah's composed finish gives LionsXII victory against a determined Perak side

In a repeat scoreline of their previous clash, the LionsXII defeated Perak 2-1 in a lively encounter @ the Jalan Besar Stadium.

The Lions were forced 2 make 3 changes 2 their side due 2 injuries but came out firing & were looking 4 the early goal.

The 1st chance of the game fell 2 Firdaus Kasman on 5 mins aft Khairul Nizam's cut back but Firdaus fired straight @ keeper Khairul Amri.

2 mins later, Yasir Hanapi attempted an outrageous volley fr the edge of the box but saw his strike hit the crossbar & go over. Tat chance sparked the Seladangs into life & they drove 4ward in numbers.

On 13 mins, Micheal Kubala, who was @ the heart of all the good moves 4 Perak, went close with a free-kick fr 25 yards but saw his shot saved comfortably by keeper Hyrulnizam.

Safuwan Bahrudin then missed a great chance 2 give his side the lead when he leapt abv keeper Khairul & won a header only 2 see his 2nd header come off the crossbar & be cleared.

The half continued with good passages of play by both teams, but they failed 2 carve out clear cut chances.

The Lions took the lead fr the penalty spot on 41 minutes. Khairul was brought down in the box by Syazwan Roslan 4 the Lions 7th penalty tis season, & Shahdan Sulaiman delivered fr the penalty spot buring his shot 2 the right of the keeper.

The 2nd half resumed in similar fashion with both teams setting out their stall 2 attack.

Perak won a penalty on 50 minutes aft Sevki Sha'ban's tug on Akmal Rizal. Micheal Kubala saw his attempt saved by keeper Hyrul but managed 2 tap home the rebound 2 even the score.

Coach Sundramoorthy sent on captain Shahril Ishak on 58 mins 2 help unlock the stubborn Perak defence.

In a surprising switch, Perak coach Norizan Bakar substituted his goalkeeper Khairul on 68 mins aft he made a blunder fr a routine catch.

As the clock wound down, both teams utilised their remaining substitutions & the game began 2 be stretched.

Safuwan was sent upfield 2 support Agu Casmir & tat move proved decisive. On 87 mins, Shakir Hamzah's punt upfield was knocked down brilliantly 2 Irwan Shah who kept his composure 2 produce an exquisite finish past the diving keeper.

That goal sent the Jalan Besar faithful in2 loud raptures & they sensed victory. Perak came 4ward in numbers but were unable 2 find an equaliser.

The Lions held on firmly till the final whistle & stretched their lead @ the top of the table to 6 points.

Can the LionsXII win the Malaysian Super league?

With 11 games left 2 play, LionsXII r 6 points clear @ the top of the Malaysian Super League (MSL).

So the big question: Can our boys hold their nerves in the final stages of the season 2 emerge champions come July?

Detractors will point out tat Kelantan hv 3 games in hand & V.Sundramoorthy's team still hv 2 visit Kota Baru on 4th May 4 wat may well be a title-decider.

But past players r convinced tat the current squad, led by captain & top-scorer Shahril Ishak, hv the pedigree 2 emulate Fandi Ahmad & the title-winning Dream Team of 1994.

Abbas Saad, who played in that 1994 team, describes the LionsXII as "1 of the best teams" in the league, while 4mer Singapore captain Aide Iskandar has "no doubt" the LionsXII hv wat it takes.

LionsXII head coach Sundram has so far been careful 2 temper the expectations of his young team, saying tat they r merely in contention 4 a top-3 finish.

But wat do u, the fans, think?

Will the LionsXII emerge champions in their 1st season back in the MSL?

I rather they don't become champions in the 1st MSL coz these players will become too big headed.

The FA Cup is different from the Malaysia Cup right? I hope we do well in the Malaysia cup. Traditionally, we seem to view winning the Cup as more important as winning the league.

The FA Cup is different from the Malaysia Cup right? I hope we do well in the Malaysia cup. Traditionally, we seem to view winning the Cup as more important as winning the league.
I believed they are trying to "fix" us up seeing our boys do well.
So anything can happen.
I'm not sure what is the precedent...in past seasons...it Malaysia Cup only...n it is league then Cup.....now is got both league n cup.
But we already out of the FA Cup liao.
So just left the league.

Our tired boys finally lose.....0-1 away to mid table PKNS.

Haha....they are always jealous of us.....but i guess our lions did pretty well.

PKNS 1 - 0 LionsXII : LionsXII unbeaten run ends



Maximum points was what both teams were searching for. For the Lions, it meant staying on top and putting pressure to Kelantan, for PKNS, it meant they can distance themselves from the bottom three.

LionsXII players looked jaded, clearly still recovering from their midweek game. They couldn't conjure any credible attack and threaten PKNS goal keeper, Mohd Remezey. The closest the came was from a volley via Shahril Ishak in the 28th minute.

The goal finally came from a free-kick from Mickael Nicoise on 80 minutes. A brilliant looping ball from the flank beating Hyrulnizam. The LionsXII custodian protested vehemently for an infringement by Helmi Remeli but the goal was to stand.

Agu Casmir almost equalised few minutes later after Mohd Remezey spilled the ball but his scooped shot was sent wide with an open goal beckoning.

The game ended with a 1-0 win for PKNS who recorded their second consecutive victory while the LionsXII surrendered their unbeaten away record.

It was a very slow and boring match. After so many years out of the M-league, I'm surprised by the low attendance in most matches. Stadium Petaling Jaya looks terribly empty. I guess most people are home watching the Premier League, especially the FA Cup Semi-Finals which was going on at the same time. Looking forward to the match in Kelantan in Kota Bahru. I think that match will be like the good old days.

whoa ..... only 38 mins in2 the game, & the Singapore LIONSXII is already 3-nil up.
1st goal in the 17 min, next in 19 min & the 3rd in 26min.

aft 2nite's game, the Singapore LIONXII k hv a long rest till 04/05/2012 4 the next game away against Kelantan.
